What is stored
The site stores the worldwide number of button presses and a personal click total connected to a randomly generated player ID. It also keeps each player’s clicks for the current day so the daily high-score board can reset at midnight Eastern Time without erasing lifetime scores.
Saved player names and high scores
Players who choose to save their scores also select a three-character arcade name made from letters or numbers. The name and click totals may be displayed publicly on the daily and all-time high-score boards. Names do not have to be unique, so choose a nonidentifying arcade name rather than sensitive personal information.
The optional cookie
When you choose “Save my score,” the site places a cookie named pb_player_id in your browser. It contains only a random identifier and is configured to last for up to ten years. It is used to retrieve your personal click count and arcade name.
Playing without the cookie
When you choose “This visit only,” no persistent player cookie is created. A temporary random identifier is kept in your browser tab using session storage and is removed when that tab is closed. Visit-only scores are not shown on the high-score boards. If you later choose to save your score in the same tab, the visit-only clicks are transferred to your saved player.
Local browser preferences
The site uses local browser storage to remember whether you selected saved-score or visit-only mode. This preference lets the site avoid showing the same choice every time you reload it. You can reopen the choice through the “Cookie choices” link.
Challenge links and score images
A challenge link contains only the three-character arcade name and the score being challenged, such as ?challenge=AAA-347. Shareable score images are generated inside your browser. The site does not upload or separately save the generated image.
IP addresses
The application does not intentionally store visitor IP addresses in its click data file. Your hosting provider may still keep normal server access logs according to its own policies.
PayPal support page
The optional support page loads PayPal’s hosted-button software. If you use that page, PayPal may process information according to its own privacy and payment policies.
Removing the cookie
You can remove the saved player ID at any time through your browser’s cookie settings. Doing so starts a new personal score the next time you choose to save your score. The disconnected score and arcade name can remain in the site’s data file unless the site owner removes them.
